With the kick off of the NFL betting season upon us, leaders in the sports betting industry in the state of New Jersey are rushing to get their online sportsbooks up and running.
Over Labor Day weekend, the FanDuel Sportsbook and sports betting app joined the ranks as active sports gambling casinos with a soft-launch. FanDuel is similar to DraftKings Sportsbook in that they both bring recognizable, high-brand etiquette to the market, due to their daily fantasy contests. However, fans looking to use their funds for both daily fantasy sports and wagering might be taken aback, though as that feature is not yet available.
Unlike the DraftKings Sportsbook and SugarHouse sportsbook, FanDuel is being a bit more cautious with the sports you’re allowed to bet on. Recently acquired by BetFair, FanDuel is only allowing users to wager on traditional American sports and soccer. Other sports such as darts, cricket, and cycling will have to be wagered on elsewhere.

FanDuel Sportsbook: How to Get Started
FanDuel, like essentially every other sports betting app we’ll see moving forward has a geo-location technology to make sure you’re in the confines of the state of New Jersey.
Before signing up, potential users are able to surf the website or app and get a feel for it and check out lines and what not before they deposit a single dollar. This will allow potential users to feel more comfortable using it over the long haul, you can suspect.
To sign up, you can create a unique account, or, if you were a FanDuel fantasy sports player, simply sign in with that username and password and that will suffice. On the sign up screen, you’ll be asked for basic contact information and to create a password, but that’s really it.
FanDuel Depositing Options
There are a myriad of ways to fund your FanDuel Sportsbook wallet. You can make a $10 minimum deposit from a checking account, credit or debit card, PayPal, FanDuel prepaid card, eCheck, online bank transfers, or the PayNearMe platform, which you can find at local 7-Eleven stores. However, unlike other casinos, FanDuel’s signup bonus promos are as lucrative as others as they will match up to the first $100.
To put that in perspective, DraftKings and SugarHouse match bonus up to $200 and $250, respectively.
FanDuel Sportsbook: Placing A Bet
Inside the app, you’ll find a “Sports Betting Training Camp Feature” which is a nice touch. In there, you’ll find a tutorial that teaches you some of the betting lingo, such as lines, spreads, totals and props. There are also guides to parlays and teasers.
FanDuel, like DraftKings, will utilize customers’ profiles and daily fantasy habits to recommend where and what to bet on. Also on the app, FanDuel will highlight and showcase the days featured events, promos and live betting options.
On the home screen, a swipe menu is there to navigate the different betting options. Once you find a sport/game to bet on, users will be able to wager on the spread, totals, props and alternate point spreads and totals.
For those familiar with the odds at the FanDuel Sportsbook at the Meadowlands, they were criticized heavily back in June for crazy betting lines, but the mobile app is much more in line with industry standards. Looking at FanDuel, DraftKings, and SugarHouse, they all have similar lines. However, don’t be afraid to shop around—and that applies to every sportsbook.
FanDuel Sports Betting App Sports Offered:
Types of Wagering Options: Spread, Moneyline, Parlays, Teasers, Round robins, Total, Alternate lines, Futures.
For wagering options, regular pre-game wagers with a differing alternate odds and totals will be up for grabs with customers, like parlays and futures bets. FanDuel also offers in-play live betting, too, with an easy interface that is similar to that of their fantasy sports application. Betting on eSports is absent from the current portfolio, and FanDuel does not appear to be in any rush to add that commodity.
Talk about coming full circle, FanDuel offers you the option to bet on a players total fantasy points. Below is an example from week 2 of the NFL season where sports bettors can bet on the over-under for fantasy points on Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Big Ben.
FanDuel Live Betting
Most of the props available before the game will remain after the start of the game. For example, baseball will offer score first/last, correct score, winning margin, first scoring play, odd/even total runs, among several other options that remain throughout the contest.
However, unlike other outlets, FanDuel doesn’t allow bettors to hedge or cash out bets as a contest unfolds. It’s a fairly new idea, but it will most likely become fairly popular in the United States.
FanDuel Sportsbook Limits and Responsibility
To some extent, the New Jersey DGE is requiring all online sportsbooks to inform users of gambling pitfalls and provide resources and tools for those who need them.
Fairly standard, but FanDuel is allowing users to set daily, weekly and monthly allowances for themselves, too. In addition, you can set daily time usage, or “cool-down” periods. In the end, don’t spend what you cannot afford. Develop a budget and stick to it!
Final Review of FanDuel Sportsbook Betting App
Looks-wise, it’s a great looking app and desktop offering. The functionality out of the gate is a step above its New Jersey sports betting counterparts. The numerous ways to withdraw and deposit makes transactions easy and simple.
Again, FanDuel only matches up to $100 on your first deposit, so if you’re someone who wants to spread funds around, perhaps this is an option, but just know there are higher new player bonus options available on other NJ Sportsbooks.
While the FanDuel sports betting offering may not have certain features like a live ticket option, it is providing a very solid product, backed by a level of experience that is tough to match in BetFair.
